What it is它是什么
Round 0 is the first of the selection papers for the UK IPhO team. The BPhO introduced it for the 2025–26 cycle as a “Round 1 primer”: Round 1 entries had reached almost 3,800 papers in November 2024, more than could be marked in reasonable time. The official page is also clear that Round 0 is meant to be inclusive and to encourage more students to have a go.

How it leads to Round 1怎样通向 Round 1
The BPhO looks at the distribution of Round 0 marks and sets a cut for Round 1 entry, keeping the right to decide individual cases at the borderline. The aim is to bring Round 1 down to between 1,500 and 2,000 entries. There is no other way into Round 1: the official page says no alternative entry route is offered. For students who miss Round 0, BAAO Round 1 in December remains an independent route to the astronomy olympiad.

How to prepare怎样准备
The official advice is practice on physics multiple-choice questions, a type with its own skill set; it points to the Tests on Isaac Science, and to the sample paper on the official Round 0 page. Most questions are pitched at good A level students, rising to harder extension problems.
官方建议是多练物理选择题——这类题有它自己的技巧；官方推荐 Isaac Science 上的练习测验，以及官方 Round 0 页面上的样卷。多数题目是优秀 A level 学生能做的难度，后面逐步过渡到更难的拓展题。

We have no Round 0 question bank: the paper is new, and the official site publishes only a sample. The nearest practice we offer is multiple-choice work at a similar level, in the multiple-choice part of the SPC question bank (Year 12), and the recurring short-question topics of Round 1 Section 1, which overlap with the Round 0 syllabus.
