Assuming rotational inertia depends only on total mass rather than how that mass is distributed about the rotation axis — a hollow ring and a solid disk of equal mass and radius have different rotational inertias, making the ring harder to angularly accelerate
Calculating torque using the full length of a moment arm rather than the perpendicular distance from the rotation axis to the line of action of the force — failing to apply the sin θ factor when the force is not perpendicular to the lever arm
Treating the rotational analogs to linear motion as a simple substitution without understanding physical meaning — for example, using τ = Iα but forgetting that I is not constant when mass distribution changes (as in a figure-skater pulling arms in)
Errors in rotational equilibrium problems: taking torques about an inconvenient pivot point, requiring more unknowns, rather than choosing a pivot that eliminates an unknown force from the torque equation
