S.-T. Yau Award — Paper Evaluation and Revision
丘成桐中学生科学奖作品评估与修改提升
Every young researcher deserves a fair, expert read of their work. The S.-T. Yau High School Science Award is one of the most rigorous research competitions available to secondary students — and getting the most out of the experience means getting the paper right. This post outlines the evaluation and revision service I offer for S.-T. Yau Award submissions.
What the Service Includes
- Full evaluation across six dimensions — a detailed written report assessing the paper against the competition's core criteria: research purpose and objectives, academic depth and literature grounding, originality and methodological innovation, scientific rigour, future impact and disciplinary direction, and academic standards of structure and language.
- Annotated revision of the original manuscript — precise, detailed markup to the sentence and paragraph level, addressing every substantive issue identified in the evaluation report.
- One hour of focused discussion — a dedicated session to walk through the report, ensure all feedback is understood, and guide the revision and polishing process.
Follow-up is provided after revision to confirm the final submission meets competition requirements and is genuinely competitive.
The Six Evaluation Dimensions
- Research overview — clarity of purpose, scope, and framing. Can the reader understand immediately what this paper is about and why it matters?
- Academic depth — quality and completeness of the literature review; how well the work is situated within existing knowledge.
- Originality and innovation — the novelty of the central idea, the distinctiveness of the methodology, and the contribution to the field.
- Scientific rigour — methodological soundness, quality of evidence, and the logic connecting data to conclusions.
- Future impact — the work's potential influence on the field, and whether it opens meaningful questions for future investigation.
- Academic standards — structure, formatting, citation practice, and language quality.
