About the exam

The AP Chemistry exam runs 3 hours 15 minutes. Section I (50%) has 60 multiple-choice questions in 105 minutes. Section II (50%) has 7 free-response questions in 105 minutes: 3 long (10 pts each) and 4 short (4 pts each). A periodic table and formula sheet are provided.

How to use this library

Each unit page below contains the full list of key topics, common exam errors to avoid, and a study guide section. Work through units in order, or jump directly to the unit with the highest exam weight — those are your highest-leverage study targets.

Exam strategy notes

• Units and significant figures matter on FRQs. Write units at every step. Rate constant units (e.g., $M^{-1} \cdot s^{-1}$ for second-order) are a frequent standalone point.
• ICE tables: write them out even when they seem unnecessary. Half-credit is available for correct setup even if the final answer is wrong.
• Net ionic equations are tested repeatedly. Cancel spectator ions consistently and include states (aq), (s), (l), (g).
• For thermodynamics FRQs, the College Board requires both $\Delta H$ and $\Delta S$ analysis to award full credit for spontaneity — entropy alone or enthalpy alone is never sufficient.
